I think the kids might need glasses. . .

My husband and I have noticed a strange phenomenon in our house. When the children need something (help, questions answered, bottoms wiped, juice poured, fights broken up. . .), they come to me. Not my husband.

My husband could be standing directly next to the child in need. I could be on the phone in the complete opposite end of the house. I could be up to my eyeballs in laundry. I could be (heaven forbid!) attempting to use the bathroom by myself. Doesn't matter. They will seek me out, completely ignore whatever I am doing, and begin their litany of needs. They will walk right by him to find me.

Why is this? It's not as if my husband is a deadbeat or a moron or ignorant father. He is, in fact, quite the opposite. He, in all probability, could help them more thoroughly than I ever could. Is it because I carried them for 9+ months in my womb? Because I am a stay-at-home mom? We are baffled. And I, for one, am questioned-out!

Does this happen at your house, too?

This depends on the child. The daughter usually prefers me to do her bidding. The boys (and sometimes the girl) will ask dad if they know they will not like my answer or the way I help. They're getting awfully crafty...

They are the same way in my house. In fact, they will walk around Matt in bed to come wake me up in the middle of the night too. Don't they see him sleeping?

CCJ - mine are quite crafty too. They have learned to ask the other if one says no (for which there are stern consequences!).
Heidi- mine do that in the night too. I think it is because my hubby TERRIFIES them when they do dare to go to his side. He wakes up startled and usually yells in their faces. I'm sure he has done this on purpose so they will walk (the long way!) around the bed to wake me up. :)

I think next time we should startle them to see what happens. Twin B at my house likes to wake me to tell me she can't sleep. ugh!

Yes. It's very common, very annoying at times. I've been trying to train mine to help themselves a little bit, instead of starting every statement with "Hey, Mom?"

ha ha! this made me laugh! I have 4 boys, they always do this. I am famous for saying "ya know, you have 2 parents!" I think my husband is more likely to say "hang on" or "in a minute" or umm...."no". He also has an amazing gift for blocking out whining. Maybe I should be more like him?
