My husband and I (as usual) are having a bit of trouble agreeing on a name for our soon-to-be-born baby. If it is a girl, we are set. We have been saving the name Katherine Claire (Katie) since our first son was born, three boys ago. But if it is a boy, we are less certain. Here are our choices, in no particular order:
Jacob - possibly nicknamed Jake
Ezekiel Thomas - nicknamed Zeke
Augustine - nicknamed Augie
Theophilus - nicknamed Theo
We realize Theophilus is a mouthful, but it is a beloved family name, and we think Theo is not too unwieldy. The other three are just names that we like, all with rich Biblical meanings or important early church figures.
SO - please vote! Make a comment and let me know what you think! I've enabled the anonymous feature on this post, so you can vote even if you don't have a blogger user id.

Ezekiel Thomas!!!! Love that name!
Ezekiel Thomas would be my choice (wonder why). Although I do have a fond memory of the name Zeke. But I'm not going to tell you why. You will just have to pry it out of me.
Two votes for (Augustine - nicknamed Augie)
from our house.....
April
3-Jacob - possibly nicknamed Jake
1-Ezekiel Thomas - nicknamed Zeke
4-Augustine - nicknamed Augie
2-Theophilus - nicknamed Theo
My votes! I love Zeke as a nickname so that was my first choice and I love Theophilus bc of the family connection!
Jacob. or MAYBE Ezekiel... but you'd better call him Zeke because he will be made fun of if you insist on calling him "EE ZEEK EE El" all the time!! :)
30 votes for Jake (I asked a whole bunch of people who were outside this evening.)
QMBK
Ezekiel Thomas or Jacob. I love the name Zeke.
I'm partial to Augustine. August was my granddad's middle name.
I would definitely vote for Jacob (Jake for short)
Theo!
NOT Jake. There are too many already! I love Zeke or Augie. Especially Augie. One of the past LCMS synod presidents was Rev. August Mennicke. He was a wonderful man--like a big teddy bear. My vote is:
1) Augie
2) Zeke
3) Theo
4) Jake (too many of these!!!)
I know there are too many Jacob's but I love my Jacob. Besides, he only gets called Jacob when his mother and I are displeased with something he has done. And we don't call him Jake. We typically just call him J or JJ. (I must confess that his name is too much for me to remember. J is about all I can handle.)
Good luck with this Shelley!
Jeremy
I love Augustine!!!!
I love Augustine because of the wonderful quotes I have heard from your husband that he is known for, although the family name is always a wonderful choice. Keep us all posted!!!
I like Zeke. Theo is nice, but no offense, Theophillousee (how do you even spell that) is cruel and unusual punishment on a 6 year old boy.
Ezekiel is nice, but you've always got to think of the initials. Do you want your child to be E.T.?
BTW - that movie scarred me for life.
I am a teacher and all I will say is think twice about Jacob :-).
I have another teach friend whose rule is no names starting with J or C for boys. At first I thought she was crazy but the longer I teach, the more I think she might be onto something.
Ok, so maybe I was a tad harsh yesterday. Naming your son Theophilus may not be cruel and unusual punishment, but it might be quite difficult for him when he is five and learning to write and spell his name. And also, what if little Theo happens to have a lisp?
Augie
augie
augie
All this and it is going to be a girl!!!!
BUT if a boy arrives.... AUGIE!!!!!
Jacob or Theo are my favorite. Using family names are great.
Well, obviousley my 1st choice is Jake (hehe). I'm not a big fan of Zeke because that was Mom's dog's name, but Theo isn't bad. I like that it's different and unique but not way out there. :-) You will come up with the perfect name and it will fit him/her perfectly. I love Katie, too. I wanted to use Kate for our girls name, but Larry didn't like it as much. We settled on Lily....now just have to "create" a girl!! hahaha
I don't know Shelley, I've wanted to name both my boys Gideon and gotten nowhere with Duane. I did want to name Tyler Luke, which ended up being his middle name. I like Ezekiel, though.
Augustine, Augie!
I am rooting for a Katie and Augie would work well only if you wait to deliver until August 1st or else save it for your eigth child!
Ezekiel and Theo are geat too. _Love, Trumbles
Hmm... I like Theo because of the family connection. I think I like Zeke more though.
Good luck!
